Houston coalition led by Houston Land Bank receives $600,000 federal brownfields grant to help transform vacant and underutilized properties for new community development
A coalition led by the Houston Land Bank (HLB) in partnership with the City of Houston and Avenue Community Development Corp. has been selected to receive a $600,000 Brownfields Assessment Grant from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s National Brownfields Grant Program.

HLB makes major Near Northside land purchase for new affordable homes
HLB ended 2020 with a milestone land acquisition, buying 3.6 acres in Houston’s Near Northside. The purchase is the largest parcel acquired in HLB history and is expected to be followed with the subsequent acquisition of another contiguous 3.2 acres currently under an option contract.

Earlier this year, Kizzy Jefferson closed on her first house. The newly finished three-bedroom, two-bathroom residence in Acre Homes, a historically Black neighborhood in Northwest Houston, sold for $75,000, less than a third of the city’s median single-family home price of $250,000.

New mayoral appointments to join Houston Land Bank board
Two new mayoral appointees to the Houston Land Bank Board of Directors were confirmed by Houston City Council July 22 along with four additions to the inaugural class of HLB’s non-voting advisory board.
