HLB community event in Sunnyside offers opportunities to learn about gardening and homeownership
With funding support from AARP, we’ve completed improvements at the Harry Holmes Healthy Harvest Community Garden in Sunnyside. Now we’re celebrating and offering the chance to learn more about gardening and about homebuying opportunities available through HLB. Join us at our community event Saturday, December 11 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 4646 Brinkley, Houston 77051.

SB 1679 became Texas law on Sept. 1, opening the door to more affordable homes, flood resilience and community development in Houston and other communities across the state.

AARP awards $9,950 Community Challenge Grant to HLB and Urban Harvest for Sunnyside community garden improvements
The Harry Holmes Healthy Harvest Community Garden in Houston’s Sunnyside neighborhood is to see more accessible planting beds, improved walking surfaces, perimeter lighting and an updated entryway as part of work to be done under an AARP Community Challenge Grant awarded to HLB and Urban Harvest. Texas Legislature approves HLB legislation to support development of affordable homes and improvement of vacant, abandoned or damaged properties
More affordable homes, flood resilience and community development are among the possibilities resulting from key legislation supported by the Houston Land Bank (HLB) and adopted by the 87th Texas Legislature. The legislation – SB 1679 – aligns with national best practices and is to enable expansion of HLB’s work toward acquisition and management of vacant, abandoned, deteriorated, or foreclosed properties into new productive use.
